BEHIND THE EVENT
A competition celebrating the versatile athlete! A competition where we aim to elevating and merge tradition, and showcase our northern horses with a Canadian Showcase.
An event to showcase the Versatility Ranch Horse in Canada while preserving American Ranch Horse traditions and western values in a fun, friendly atmosphere.
Herd Work
Demonstrating the horses’ ability to assess and quietly remove a cow from a herd, and prevent it from returning.
Reined Work
Composed of circles, sliding stops and spins in a set pattern showcasing a feather-light touch and willingly guided horse.
Cow Work
Stemming from vaquero roots wherein a horse must control a renegade cow by boxing it, potentially graduating to a turn each direction on the fence, and optionally circling or roping it.
Ranch Riding
A pattern class simulating ranch work outside the confines of an arena demonstrating the forward-working speed of all 3 gaits while depicting a pleasant attitude.
Ranch Trail
Focuses on obstacles typically encountered in the day-to-day operations of a ranch including opening and closing a hinged gate, navigating a bridge, log and/or series of logs, dragging an obstacle, backing, and side passing.
Conformation
Held at the conclusion of the ridden classes, this is the ultimate form-to-function measuring stick whereby the horse has a natural ranch horse appearance while demonstrating soundness and a willing attitude.
